ABOUT THE ARTIST

Rachel is a multi-disciplinary artist working across the mediums of photographic processes, sound recording and performance.

Her practice explores our perceptions of sound within environments and how that can be expressed in a visual context. She explores micro level sounds, the physical and material aspects of the body and environment and resonance within analogue instruments.

Her research in sound has led to the making of diverse soundscapes for both installations and dance/drawing performance and encompasses both recorded environmental sound, instrument recordings and alternative sound sources using a variety of different microphone techniques.

Her work is underpinned by an understanding and appreciation of elements of Japanese philosophy and aesthetics. She is interested in how we listen, where our perceptions of sound arise and how this influences our present experience.
