ABOUT THE ARTIST

Josie Wadelton creates situations in which everyday objects are altered or detached from their natural function. By applying specific combinations and certain manipulations, different functions and/or contexts are created.

Her works appear as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, well-known tropes merge, meanings shift, past and present fuse.

Wadelton works in a variety of media.

This includes painting and drawing on canvas, digital painting, collage, soft sculpture, film, app art and installation.

A key element in her practice is the research, discovery and investigative process which translates into a search for material elements such as paper, texture, fonts, symbols, and numbers. This process then forms the basis for an artwork.

Her primary source of inspiration is derived from Classical Antiquity European and Asian cultures. Major influences have been Surrealism, Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism. And the Unseen Universe of the Human Imagination.

By focusing on techniques and materials, the work then generates diverse meanings. Associations and meanings collide. Space becomes time and language becomes image.
